Twice a national finalist at the prestigious HBO Comedy Festival, Troy Baxley is already well-known in comedy circles.

The best restaurants are those where chefs dine on their nights off. Troy Baxley is the comic that other comics, from open-mic’ers to top A-List comedians watch every chance they get. Even Letterman talent scout Eddie Brill calls himself a “huge Troy Baxley fan.” Word.

Others are catching on too. The Onion points out that “…only recently has [Baxley’s] weird brand of impish comedy started to penetrate the mainstream…” and from the way people turn out to see him every time he plays a gig, well, tru dat, yo!

Mother Nature shut Down the Lips in Tulsa!

Rain, rain did not go away over the weekend, in fact, it wreaked havoc on several outdoor concerts. An in-progress INXS show in Pennsylvania, a Flaming Lips concert in Tulsa, a music festival on Long Island. All were halted and/or canceled due to the blanket of precipitation that covered a large swath of the country over the past few days.

The final day of the Escape to New York music festival had to be called off Sunday following an overnight drenching of the festival grounds, owned by the Shinnecock Indians, on Long Island.

Scheduled to play Sunday were Of Montreal, Mates of State and Tiger Love. Refunds were given and organizers are already gearing up for next year. "With amazing reviews and a close to capacity crowd on Saturday, Escape to New York looks forward to returning next year," they said in a statement.

Halfway across the country in Tulsa, Okla., heavy wind and rain knocked down the Flaming Lips' lighting rig before their set on Saturday at the District Block Party. The crew anticipated problems and cleared the stage before the rig crashed down on some of the Oklahoma City band's gear. A roadie claimed that the incident caused about $800,000 in damage. Judging by dramatic video footage of the incident -- in which you can see members of the band looking on -- it's hard to dispute that claim.

"The Oklahoma wind and rain was a little bit more unpredictable than we had hoped, and we had a bad gust," frontman Wayne Coyne told NewsOK.com. "The whole thing is shambolic and a bit dangerous and we're working to get as much off of the stage before we get hit with the second wave."

INXS was in the middle of its fourth song Sunday at the Mohegan Sun casino in Pennsylvania when a rain storm shorted out the electrical system and blew out the band's amplifiers. The Aussie rockers made up for it by sticking around and chatting with fans after the cancelation.

Ironically, the weekend's biggest festival -- Lollapalooza in Chicago -- experienced only minimal disruptions, despite getting soaked with rain on its final day.

Whisker Wars

This is my pick for the greatest show idea of 2011! Thank You IFC!!!

Whisker Wars

This summer, the fascinating and hair raising world of competitive facial hair growing is coming to IFC. Whisker Wars, a seven episode reality series produced and narrated by award-winning producer Thom Beers (Deadliest Catch, Ice Road Truckers, IRT: Deadliest Road, Storage Wars, Ax Men, Coal), premieres Friday, August 5 at 11:00pm ET/PT.

The series follows a devoted group of whisker warriors as they travel the country competing for top bearding honors in preparation for the World Championship Competition in Trondhjem, Norway. Historically, Germany has long dominated the field but now there is an upstart squad on the horizon - Beard Team USA. In an effort to solidify their standing, more than 80 local U.S. chapters are coming together to form the ultimate American bearding team. Self-appointed Captain of Beard Team USA, Phil Olsen will lead them in their attempt to stage an upset and bring home the World title. However, Phil's quest quickly shifts from building the team to holding it together as his motives come into question and tensions flare between his star players.

"The eccentricities and dedication of the bearding community is absolutely riveting and once you add the competition element, it becomes a true sporting event," said Executive Producer Thom Beers "Whisker Wars has it all - rivalry, tragedy, love, jealousy and passion. It's an epic story."

The beardsmen generally compete in five categories: Moustache, Partial Beard, Full Beard Groomed, Freestyle and the prestigious, Full Beard Natural. They are judged on overall appearance, style and personality. Whisker Wars introduces viewers to some of the country's top beardsmen in all categories including two-time World Champion in the Full Beard Natural category, Jack Passion. Jack has a clear goal: to become the first "Professional Beardsman" and nothing will get in his way. Not even his fellow beardsmen who are vying for his spot including last year's national champion Aarne Bielefeldt, the Gotham City Beard Alliance's Myk O'Connor, and president of the Austin Facial Hair Club, Bryan Nelson. Throughout the season, the beardsmen's love of country and sport is put to the test as they battle each other and eventually other nations for the crowning achievement of World Champion.

Whisker Wars is executive produced by Thom Beers, Philip D. Segal and Jeff Conroy with Jay Bennett and Diane Kay Bennett as series producers for Original Productions, a FremantleMedia Company. Debbie DeMontreux, Dan Pasternack and Jennifer Caserta serve as executive producers for IFC.
